Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today distributed an RM80 million assistance package to Tamil schools, saying that it was not an by-election gimmick as it had been announced much earlier. (more)

Economic package unveiled

The Government dialled down its projected gross domestic product (GDP) growth for 2009 from 5.4% to 3.5%, but said it would inject RM7bil to strengthen the economy and boost confidence within the private sector.

MALAYSIAKINI : RM50mil for Tamil schools: MIC says thanks

Human Resources Minister Dr S Subramaniam thanked the government and Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak for approving the MIC's request for a RM50 million allocation for Tamil schools under the stimulus package announced today.

FOR ALL MALAYSIAN INDIANS

A simple question to all, how many of us Indians (Tamils) and or Hindus know how to speak, read and write our own mother tongue? How many of us stand proud telling that we are Indians or Hindus? How many of us when we meet our fellow Indian friends, say Vanakam, or even converse in Tamil or any other Indian Languages? IF your answer is a 'YES', then you should be proud of yourself that you have not lost your identity. Look at our fellow Malay and Chinese friends, they are so fluent with their respective mother tongues, and they are proud

Tamil schools: Whose responsibility? MIC's or gov't's?

Tamil schools, like the Chinese schools, are often seen to be sidelined by the government, though they are said to be an integral part of the national education system.
During a 90-minute exclusive interview with Malaysiakini, MIC president S Samy Vellu argued that since gaining independence from the colonial rulers, his party has persistently struggled to maintain and improve the schools. (more)
